Functional Tyres For Exercise

Tyres have become an increasingly popular training aid in many people’s fitness routines. Tyre flipping has been an exercise that’s long associated with those of super-strength; in fact, it was one of the main events of the anticipated strongest man event back in the 90s. Nowadays, we’ve learnt about the fantastic benefits that tyres can provide in a day-to-day training routine, with options available to suit all strength levels.

How Can I Incorporate Tyres Into My Exercise Routine?

Using tyres is a fantastic option for those who want to improve functional strength alongside building cardio at the same time. Due to the tyre's versatility in its shape and size, there are various exercises that can be performed with this simple piece of equipment.

Firstly, Tyre Flipping.

Tyre Flipping is a strength-building and conditioning exercise that targets multiple areas of the body in equal measure. It is a compound movement meaning several major muscle groups are used simultaneously, including the quads, hamstrings, glutes, core, back, bicep and shoulders. In addition, it is a great way to strengthen and stretch hip flexors.

Due to the stability and height of a tyre, you can also use it as an object to perform exercises on. Exercises can include things like jump squats (jumping up onto the tyres), decline push-ups, tyre rope pulls (attaching a rope), and single-leg exercises such as decline lunges. All these exercises have the main similarity of building strength while increasing the heart rate and burning calories.

What Type Of Tyre Should I Choose?

Nowadays, tyres for fitness have come a long way from that of an actual tyre. High-quality fitness tyres are built with holdable fabrics and hexagonal shapes; functionality is at the forefront of modern exercise tyre design.

At Gym Equipment, we offer a variety of tyres from the leading fitness range, Jordan. We stock Jordan’s ‘tuffknut’ tyre range, which offers tyres from 40kg up to 100kg, meaning there is something for all strength levels and exercise types. The Tuffknut tyres are built with a heavy-duty PVC cover and have a padded core, making it a high-quality and long-lasting piece of multifunctional kit.
