What Is A Multigym?

Put simply, a multigym is a single piece of equipment that enables you to do multiple exercises in one place. That means you can effectively cover almost all the muscle groups in your body without the need for multiple pieces of equipment or additional weights.

A multigym can be used at home or in a commercial gym for strength training and cardio and can benefit people just starting out to fitness enthusiasts and athletes on intense training schemes.

What Multigym Is Right For Me?

The most popular types of multigyms use weight stacks. Most people will be familiar with multigyms, where you put a pin into the weight stack to get the required resistance. This is both a safe and time-effective way to train, meaning you don’t have to load or unload physical weights. Check that the multigym you are looking at has a weight that ranges between 5kg to 90kg for maximum training options.

There are also resistance styles of multigym equipment whereby the user adds discs to the machine themselves. Both options offer a highly functional piece of gym equipment and should provide you with enough scope for fitness development.

What exercises can be performed with a Multigym?

Whether you’re aiming to lose weight or build strength, multigyms provide incredibly flexible exercise options. When choosing your multigym, make sure you understand what it is you want to do on the multigym. Most models will allow you to exercise your chest, back, arms and legs, but they do vary in the number of exercises that can be performed on them.

We’d advise looking for a multigym that has at least 11 different exercise options. Some great examples of exercises that can be performed on a multigym include:

-Lateral Pull Downs

-Chest Press

-Leg Extensions & Curls

Another great reason to use a multigym is that you can practise supersets. If you’re unfamiliar, supersets are where you perform two exercises back to back, meaning you can double the amount of work you’re doing, all while keeping the recovery periods to a minimum. For example, doing ten reps on a chest exercise, followed by a set of back or bicep exercises.

What Multigym Shall I Buy?

Whilst multigyms pack a punch in size compared to having multiple pieces of equipment - they are still a fairly large piece of kit! You should always measure up your space before you buy.

A good quality multigym should last you for many years to come and will always arrive with a warranty for peace of mind. When picking the gym equipment for your space, investing in high-quality equipment from the get-go makes more economic sense in the long run.

We stock a variety of tried and tested multigyms from trusted brands such as Life Fitness, Inspire Fitness and Jordan. When choosing your multigym, you should check that it has the right attachments for the exercises you want to perform.

Most high-quality multigyms will come with an adjustable bench, adjustable pulleys and some starter attachments. You can always add attachments to your multigym if there are specific exercises you’d like to perform. At Gym Equipment, we stock a variety of machine attachments, such as V-handles and close-grip pulldown handles.
